I could cut my own hair. But I don’t…because I like how it looks when a curly hair specialist does it.
Yes it costs more. But my curls are looked after properly. I don’t leave wondering if it’s a mess or whether it will sit right until the next cut. It’s done, and it’s done properly.
I could attempt it myself. Maybe watch videos, practise, get better over time. But we all know how that would end. And I don’t want to spend my time getting good at something that isn’t my job.
And this is exactly how I think about marketing.
Your marketing isn’t the problem sitting on your to do list
The biggest difference when someone starts working with me?
Their marketing stops sitting there in the background…all…the…time. Taking up their headspace.
That running list in your head saying “I should post something”, or “I should send an email”, or “I’ll get onto that next week”.
It’s not there in the same way anymore. Not because it’s being ignored but because it’s being handled.
If you’re reading this and thinking “yes, this is exactly it”…it might be time to get some proper support.
Take a look at how I support clients here.
“I just need to get better at marketing”
Some business owners think that they have to improve their marketing skills.
They’re keen to learn more or try new things out. Figuring out how to do it all themselves so they can save money and stay in control.
And yes, marketing skills matter.
But they’re not always the most valuable marketing skills in your business. There’s a big difference between knowing how to do something and doing it consistently enough to get results.
Most people can do their marketing.
They just don’t. Not properly or with consistency. Not in a way that gets them results.

When everything starts…and nothing finishes
What is see a lot isn’t a lack of marketing skills. It’s a loss of direction.
Too many ideas and options and too many things started but not finished.
A post that is drafted in your head but not posted.
Email marketing that you started a year ago but haven’t done anything since and have just abandoned.
Even a marketing plan that you created but never implemented, so it’s been put in the “too hard to do box”.
It’s like that kitchen drawer we all have with random paraphernalia in. We keep shovings thing in!
You know the one. Full of random bits you might need one day. Batteries. Old keys. Cables you refuse to throw away “just in case”.
You know there’s some useful stuff in there. You just don’t want to open it.
So marketing becomes that same kind of drawer. This constant background task. Always something you’ll “get around to”.
And while you’re doing bits here and there…it’s not getting you anywhere.

Creating marketing plans isn’t the problem
Creating marketing plans isn’t usually an issue.
Most business owners have had a go at this. Or asked ChatGPT to write it for them (you know who you are! Tut – I’m rolling my eyes.) Regardless of how it’s been created, there’s a document somewhere, a spreadsheet or a list of ideas or a rough plan that felt like a good step at the time.
But it’s not being used or followed, or indeed turned into activity. A plan on its own doesn’t grow a business. It just sits there looking organised whilst everything else carries on arounf it.
It’s the doing it that makes the difference. And that’s the bit that’s hardest to keep up with when you’ve got a business to run.
What working with me changes
I’m not here to give you more to learn or add to your list.
I’m here to take what needs doing and actually get it done with you.
To stop the faffing and take the ideas that are floating around in your head (and your notes app…and that random notebook you can never find when you need it) and turn them into something that actually goes out into the world.
Over time, your marketing becomes something that runs consistently in the background without taking over your brain.
You’re visible in the right places, and you can see what’s working, so you’re not constantly starting again every few weeks.
And the biggest difference?
The biggest difference isn’t just better marketing. It’s getting your headspace back. it’s not thinking about your marketing all the time or carrying around that mental to do list. Not having it sat there like an unfinished job taht follows you round the house.
It’s that feeling of knowing it’s in hand. Like when you’ve finally sorted something that’s been on your list for weeks and you think, “why didn’t I just deal with that sooner?”
That’s what good marketing support does.

Why it’s worth it
It’s the same reason I go to someone who understands curly hair.
I could do it myself…maybe learn how to do it.
But when someone who knows exactly what they’re doing is taking care of it, I don’t have to worry about it and the result is twirly, curly hair.
Marketing works in exactly the same way.
You’re still in control
Working with me doesn’t mean handing everything over and stepping back completely. You’re still involved and have input, and you certainly know what’s going on.
You’ve just got someone alongside you who can build the plan with you and make sure it happens.
So if this feels familiar…
If your marketing feels like it’s always there in the background, half finished and never quite getting results, it might not be a skills problem. It might just be time to stop trying to do it all yourself.
